  4. You deserve an explanation for what went wrong in our
  5. accounting department, and I hope that this letter will
  6. serve to resolve our recent difficulties.

  8. I know that you can appreciate the fact that it has
  9. taken some time to find out exactly what occurred, and,
  10. therefore, please accept our apologies for the delay in
  11. this response.

  13. Apparently, your payment was received in a timely fashion,
  14. but it was credited to an account which bears a similar
  15. name to yours.  Therefore, we commenced sending you our
  16. standard notices requesting payment, in keeping with our
  17. routine policy.  Even after the posting error was rectified,
  18. our accounting department failed to notify our credit
  19. department, which is why you continued to receive our
  20. correspondence demanding payment.

  22. I know how exasperating this has been for you and I am
  23. deeply sorry that it has taken so long to straighten out
  24. this problem.  While there is a procedure within our firm
  25. to preclude this type of error from occuring, we are
  26. reinforcing this procedure.
